Part 7 of my ongoing project to re-create some of my favorite classic Depeche Mode songs, primarily from the 1983-1993 era. This time I'm including songs from Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and a couple of B-Sides from the Speak and Spell timeframe. Song List: 00:00 But Not Tonight 04:16 Blasphemous Rumours 10:40 Rush 15:19 Ice Machine 19:07 Shout! Here is a breakdown of the samples used in the re-creation: But Not Tonight: no samples were used in this song. Blasphemous Rumours: I recorded my own versions of all of the samples in this song- a hammer hitting a brick to form part of the snare drum; scissors snipping; some pots and pans clanging on a cookie sheet; a die from a game that I bounced on my desk. Rush: this one was fairly complicated as I went to the same original sources for sounds- elements of the drum track came from On TV by Renegade Soundwave, and Naked in the Rain from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers; The kick and snare (pitched up) from the intro of When the Levy Breaks by Led Zeppelin; various guitar sounds were taken from the intro of Peter Gabriel's Not One of Us; a section of the intro to Institution Green by Suzanne Vega was used in the quiet part in the middle. Ice Machine: no samples used in this song. This version was based on the 1984 live arrangement. Shout!: no samples used in this song. This version was based on the 1984 live arrangement. I do not own the copyright on any of these songs and only made them out of admiration for the original music.
