The Dalit Tayasanon Festival is the flagship cultural, harvest, and religious fiesta celebration of the municipality of Tayasan, located in northern Negros Oriental. Celebrated annually during the town's fiesta festivities in June (with the main street dancing and ritual showdown typically held around June 9–13), it honors Tayasan's patron saint, St. Anthony of Padua. The word dalit in Visayan translates to "an offering," "gift," or "a presentation of hospitality." 1. Meaning & Core Concept Culture of Offering: The festival centers around dalit—a heartfelt offering of thanksgiving for a fruitful year of blessings, health, and abundant agricultural and coastal harvests. Local Produce & Livelihood: Dancers showcase themes depicting Tayasan’s main agricultural and economic livelihoods, including local delicacies like lechon, banana crops, coastal fishing, and farming. Spirit of Hospitality: In keeping with the spirit of dalit, Tayasanons use the festival as a grand gesture to welcome guests and travelers into their homes with open arms, feast banquets, and music.
