For the first time since 1991 the New Haven's orange and green scheme, once used on various Alco and GE switchers, was seen on the Cape Main on Cape Cod, MA. MBTA recently released New Haven heritage unit 1128 and it made an appearance at Cape Cod Railfan Day 2026. In this video we see the unit being towed back from Hyannis through Barnstable, Sandwich, and Bourne, MA. The last time this New Haven paint scheme was seen on the Cape was on Cape Cod Railroad's New Haven 0670 in 1991. Prior to that this scheme had not been seen on the Cape since perhaps the early 1970's but it was a normal sight dating back to the late 1940's. Despite this scheme being rare, the McGinnis painted MC FL9's and MBTA's F40 1071 have been traversing this line regularly for some time now.
