Abandoned Geist Castle

The manor house was built by László Batthyány between 1844 and 1851, originally as a hunting lodge. It is a two-story, Romantic-style building, to which a chapel was later added during the time the Geist family owned the estate. The history of the manor is also linked to István Petőfi—the younger brother of Sándor Petőfi—who worked on the estate as a farm manager starting in 1858. Following the Second World War, the building served various purposes, but its condition subsequently deteriorated significantly. Today, the manor house and its surrounding park remain an important part of the historical heritage of Kondoros. Although the building has fallen into disrepair, the site still retains the atmosphere of the past and serves as a reminder of 19th-century aristocratic life.
