Andvaranautr | Old Norse Dark Folk | The Cursed Ring of Andvari

Andvaranautr is a dark Nordic folk song in Old Norse-inspired lyrics about the cursed ring of Andvari and the doom it brings to everyone who owns it. The song follows the story from the Volsunga saga and the Eddas: the dwarf Andvari curses his ring when Loki takes it, the ring and its gold pass to the dragon Fafnir, the hero Sigurd slays the dragon and takes the ring, and he gives it to the Valkyrie Brynhild. The curse follows them all. Lyrics (in simplified spelling): Gull ok hring, gull ok bol, Andvari maelti Gull, gull, bolvat gull Hringr ok bani, hringr ok blod Andvaranautr, Andvaranautr Dauthi er i hringnum Meaning: Gold and ring, gold and woe, Andvari spoke. Gold, gold, cursed gold. Ring and bane, ring and blood. Andvaranautr. Death lies in the ring. The lyrics are Old Norse-inspired and not scholarly Old Norse. The grammar is not perfect.
