Iran a land that saw, endured, and repeatedly rose again after the Greeks, Arabs, Mongols, and Turks. This documentary encompasses the entire history of Iran from its beginnings to today from mysterious ancient civilizations like Elam and Jiroft, to Cyrus the Great's Achaemenid Empire, from Alexander's conquest to the Sassanid Renaissance, from the Arab conquest and the Islamic Golden Age to the Mongol destruction and Timurid art, from the glory of the Safavid Empire to the ambitions of Nadir Shah, and from the Qajar era's "Great Game" to Pahlavi modernization and the 1979 Islamic Revolution. We will see how a land that was only partly fertile in terms of geography gave birth to some of the world's greatest empires. We will understand how the Persian language and identity survived despite Arab, Turkic, and Mongol conquests, even as neighbors like Egypt, Syria, and Iraq were completely transformed. And we will take a close look at modern Iran's biggest turning points the 1953 coup, the 1979 revolution, the Iran-Iraq War, the controversy over the nuclear program, and in recent years, the fight for women's rights. This video does not support or oppose any one side it is simply an attempt to present a true, balanced account of history, so that you can understand for yourself why today's Iran is so complex.
