MATCHBOX Commer TV Service Van restoration

Restoring a Lesney Matchbox No. 62B T.V. Service Van, in the Matchbox range from 1963 until 1968. The TV Service Van was certainly one of the more accessorised models by Lesney. I can't imagine many remained complete for long, but when it was box fresh it had a plastic sprue containing the roof mounted ladders and aerial, plus a trio of television sets, each unique. Those could be stored in the rear of the van safely with a rear roller door securing them. It had limited variations, mainly of wheel types, during its 1963 to 1968 run. The decals on the van were originally Rentaset branded, a radio and television rental company from the UK. They were changed part way through production to Radio Rentals, once a rival company to Rentaset but now part of the same group of companies following mergers. The Radio Rentals brand would be visible in the UK until 2000, although it continues in Australia in an online capacity. The van is based on a Commer BF, a model available from the Rootes Group between 1957 and 1966. In 1961, the Walk Thru van was introduced which nudged the BF down to Commer's budget offering.
