S10E9: "Sustainably Crafted" ft. BSSB Furniture Group | Howard Obbard

Furniture has always been about design and skill - but the industry now faces a harder question: how do you grow without costing the planet? This episode's guest is, Howard Obbard from BSSB Furniture Group - one of Malaysia's largest bespoke bed manufacturers. What stands out isn't a single green initiative - it's control over the whole chain. Rather than sourcing ready-made materials from overseas, BSSB starts at the raw-material stage: designing its own fabrics, sourcing timber from renewable plantations, and running an in-house sustainability division that sets its own standards. Some of what we will get into: 🌏 Two decades in - from London to founding BSSB in 1999 🧵 Sustainability from the ground up - why owning the materials changes what's possible on waste & durability ⚖️ Cost vs conscience - the honest tension of staying affordable 🪑 Where it's heading - shifting buyer expectations, and where Malaysia fits .
