Randwick Wap and cheese roll 2013

A centuries old tradition was revived today when villagers in Randwick celebrated the ancient festival of Wap. A costumed procession with a mayor and queen made its way through the streets of the sleepy village near Stroud. Sword bearers, a sheriff and ladies in waiting accompanied the pair and a Mop-Man cleared the way and wet the crowd with water, before the mayor and queen were dipped in the pond. The procession then made its way to the fair field by the village hall, stopping half way for two special cheeses to be rolled down Well Leaze Hill by the mayor and queen.
