World Soccer Winning Eleven 5 (Pro Evolution Soccer in Europe) is a football simulation game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (KCET) and published by Konami for the PlayStation 2. It was released in Japan in March 2001 and in Europe in November 2001. It was the first main Winning Eleven title produced for the PS2. The objective is to play football matches using national teams and clubs, featuring Exhibition, League, Cup, Training and Master League modes. The Japanese edition featured 53 national teams and 32 clubs, along with four stadiums and a training pitch. Recognition at CESA: Winning Eleven 6 also received recognition at the CESA Game Awards (now known as the Japan Game Awards), which highlighted its technical evolution and realism. In addition to matches, Leagues, Cups and Training, the Master League began using four regional leagues, each divided into first and second divisions. The player manages the squad, negotiations and formations, striving for promotion and titles. The game also introduced matches between national teams and clubs in Match mode and expanded competition options. CURIOSITIES AND CULTURAL CONTEXT The legendary Arthur Antunes Coimbra on the cover: On the cover of Winning Eleven 7, the chosen one was "simply" Zico, one of the legends of Brazilian football and also a legend and one of the main figures responsible for the major evolution of Japanese football. Zico's greatness is so spectacular in Japan that the J.League itself presents Zico as "Sakkā no Kamisama" (God of Football) and explains his importance to Japanese football.
