Tom's mosaic tile is 0.4 dm by 0.3 dm, and he writes 1.2 dm² — a tile bigger than a whole square decimetre?! Count the
little squares: 4 × 3 = 12 hundredths, so 0.4 × 0.3 = 0.12. Learn to multiply two decimals by decomposing (whole numbers
first, then the 0.1's), why a tenth of a tenth is a hundredth, and the bigger-or-smaller check to make on every product.
