I really enjoy taking a discarded pallet - one that might otherwise just end up in a bonfire - dismantling it, and crafting something useful that will serve people for years to come, all while trying to make it look beautiful. This time, I got lucky: there was no wire left in the nail holes, so I didn't have to struggle to pry it out. I have to admit, I still have a lot to learn and often make mistakes while building things; for instance, I messed up the drawer sides this time and cut the back panels too short, so they don't reach the full depth of the drawer. Some people might not like that I leave the nail holes visible, but I actually love that detail - it serves as a reminder that this was once a discarded pallet, complete with knots, nail holes, cracks, and imperfections; to me, that represents its history.
