HIS VOICE DRIVES THE WHOLE BAND! | Wunderhorse – Teal First Reaction

That was Wunderhorse with “Teal,” and this was a Super Thanks request from Manchester Our City. Thank you so much for the request and for supporting the channel. I really appreciate it. I liked this one. The thing that really stood out to me was the singer. His vocal performance seemed to be driving the entire band, and that's a little unusual for me. Normally I'm listening for the drums, bass or guitar to be pushing everything forward, but with this song, the focus was really on that vocal. He's got this very energetic singing style that's almost a punk-style scream at times, but it never really crossed the line into just screaming. It came across really well, and I thought it fit the song perfectly. I also really liked that slide guitar. It was a great fit with his voice and added another texture without taking the focus away from the vocal. As far as the lyrics go, what I was getting from it while listening was something about living your life, dealing with what life throws at you, and maybe realizing that ultimately you've got to find your own way through it. Afterward, I looked into it a little bit, and there's actually a very personal story behind this song. Jacob Slater wrote “Teal” about a close friend who became seriously ill. He has talked about how that experience made him realize just how fragile life can be. Knowing that now, I can definitely hear some of that emotion in his vocal performance. I also wondered how old this was because everybody in the crowd had their phones out, and it turns out “Teal” was originally released in 2021, so this is definitely a much newer band than a lot of the artists we listen to around here. Overall, though, good song. Thumbs-up from me. I especially liked the energy of the vocal and the way the band seemed to build itself around him rather than the other way around. I'd definitely be interested in hearing what else Wunderhorse has to offer. Manchester Our City, thank you again for the Super Thanks request.
