I’m happy to share my second clinical resource video which is called “Thinking Functionally About Behaviour”. This video is a quick introduction to the differences between the form and function of behaviour, along with a practical example of how we can start to determine the possible functions of behaviour. This way of understanding and conceptualising behaviour is core to third wave approaches like ACT, DBT, FAP and others… I have tried to introduce the concept of functional thinking in simple language, avoiding any behaviour-analytic jargon, and using a case example (I will be adding some more in-depth videos on the topic, but wanted to start with something introductory)… So I’m hoping the video will be a useful introduction for students, or for clinicians who aren’t too familiar with functional analysis, or even as a simple refresher for those of you who are already well versed in behaviour-analytic or CBS principles. Enjoy!... and feel free to share the resource with any colleagues who might have an interest in this area. Brendon Knott Clinical Psychologist
