Sheng Thao's federal bribery trial: the star witness takes the stand. Plus Yee Leng Xiong makes Hmong history and the DOJ civil rights chief quits. Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, the first Hmong American woman to lead a major U.S. city, is on trial in federal court on bribery, conspiracy and fraud charges. Prosecutors allege a pay-to-play deal with the Duong family of California Waste Solutions. Thao and her co-defendants have pleaded not guilty, and the defense says the government's star witness, Mario Juarez, is a "hustler" out for revenge. We break down the evidence, the inside game, and what it means for our community. Hmong history night: Yee Leng Xiong won Wisconsin State Treasurer, on track to become the first Hmong American elected to statewide office in the U.S. In Sacramento, Mai Vang's race against Rep. Doris Matsui is still being counted. And we remember the Yang family of South St. Paul, whose father was deported to Laos, a country he had never lived in. Harmeet Dhillon resigned as head of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division and says the White House asked her to wait until after the midterms. We look at her record, including the Minneapolis cases. Gov. Gavin Newsom commuted all 548 death sentences in California to life without parole, the largest mass commutation in modern U.S. history. We hear both sides. And two days after voters rejected his party over prices, Trump signed a proclamation declaring the Oval Office a "national monument."
