A prominent keel bone is often a symptom of an underlying problem, and similar signs may be caused by digestive issues, infections, parasites, poor nutrient absorption, severe weakness, or other health conditions. That is why you should not only look at the pigeon’s chest. You should also pay attention to: Appetite, body weight, droppings, water intake, activity level, feather condition, and other signs of illness. 💉 What if the pigeon has no appetite and refuses to take the medicine? If the medication is intended to be given orally and the pigeon will not take it on its own, you can use a syringe without a needle to administer it carefully. Give the medicine slowly from the side of the beak, in very small amounts, and allow the pigeon enough time to swallow. ⚠️ Never force a large amount of liquid directly toward the throat, as it may enter the airway and cause aspiration or choking. If the pigeon is unable to swallow, is extremely weak, or develops coughing, wheezing, or breathing difficulty while being given liquid, stop immediately and seek proper veterinary advice. One of the most important skills of an experienced pigeon keeper or pigeon fancier is not simply knowing the names of medications. It is the ability to recognize symptoms, understand normal pigeon behavior, and consider different possible causes before choosing a treatment.
