A prophet walking barefoot and exposed for three years sounds unbelievable until you realize God is aiming at something all of us do when life gets unstable. We open Isaiah 20 and follow the shocking sign God gives through Isaiah, not as random weirdness, but as a focused warning to a fearful nation looking for a quick fix. Judah wants protection from Assyria, and Egypt and Cush seem like the smartest political alliance. God says, plainly, that the “rescuers” are about to need rescuing. We trace the historical setting behind the chapter, including Assyria’s campaign against Ashdod under Sargon II, and why that matters for understanding the pressure Judah feels.
