Dirty water makes you sick in a day or two: fever, cramps, the runs. Boil it first, every time. 2. Make a rehydration drink: 1 litre of boiled water, 6 level teaspoons of sugar, half a teaspoon of salt. Sip it, don't gulp. 3. In the open, move cover to cover: never walk down the middle of the street. 4. Read the label. Never guess a dose, and never give an adult's dose to a child. 5. Isolate the sick in one room, with one carer, and wash your hands. Nobody gets thrown out. Survival advice is based on real emergency-preparedness guidance.
