Louisville Couple Shot 500 Feet Apart in Broad Daylight — Arrest Made | Alexis McCrary

Alexis Yvonne McCrary and Edward “Lamont” Smith Jr. were shot and killed in broad daylight in Louisville’s Russell neighborhood—at two locations approximately 500 feet apart. The Louisville couple shared a child. Lamont, 26, was killed one day before his 27th birthday. Alexis was 25, although some early reports incorrectly listed her as 24. Surveillance footage helped police identify a vehicle allegedly connected to both shootings. Maurice Chase Gibson was arrested first and later received a five-year sentence for complicity murder. Kentucky records list him on probation through March 20, 2029. One month after the killings, Paul Wade was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Wade pleaded not guilty. A final disposition of his murder case could not be confirmed through the reliable public sources reviewed. The case later gained national attention when members of the victims’ families confronted Wade during a preliminary hearing before Judge Anne Haynie.
