From world stages to a Delhi settlement: An Indian magician's story | BBC News India

Ishamuddin Khan took the world famous rope trick around the world. But today, the magician from Delhi is worried about the future of the art he learnt from his family. He belongs to the Madari community, generations of performers who have made a living through street arts, including magic, acrobatics and juggling. As performers struggle to find places to work, some have turned to other livelihoods. In Delhi's Kathputli Colony, Ishamuddin and other members of his community reflect on a changing way of life, the challenges of earning a living through traditional performance, and whether the next generation will carry these skills forward.
