Where shall its praise begin? Taking away my burden, Setting my spirit free; For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Stanza 2: Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching to all the lost, By it I have been pardoned, Saved to the uttermost. Chains have been torn asunder, Giving me liberty; For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Stanza 3: Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching the most defiled, By its transforming power Making him God's dear child, Purchasing peace and heaven, For all eternity; And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Chorus: Wonderful the matchless grace, the matchless grace of Jesus, Deeper than the mighty rolling sea the rolling sea; Wonderful grace all sufficient for me, for even me, O magnify the precious name of Jesus, Praise His name! SCRIPTURE & THEMES: This hymn celebrates the amazing grace of Jesus Christ. The Bible verses listed above emphasize the essential role of grace in salvation and the sufficiency of God's grace in various life situations. They align in the following themes expressed in this hymn: (1) Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV): "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." The central role of grace in salvation through faith, highlighting that it is a gift from God and not something earned by works. (2) Romans 5:20-21 (KJV): "Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." Grace abounds even in the face of sin, and it leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ. (3) 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV): "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." God's grace is sufficient and that His strength is made perfect in weakness.
