Watch Kurt Sensenbrenner, Maridith Kasza, and Nicole Weber navigate menus and share their strategies for making the PKU diet work in daily life as they travel around Portland, Oregon. Along the way, they bond over managing temptation, pouring formula on cereal, and wondering what cheese tastes like.

What's PKU? PKU (phenylketonuria) is an inherited metabolic disorder (IMD) where the body can't break down the amino acid phenylalanine. People with PKU, like Kurt Sensenbrenner the series’ host/director, must follow a strict low protein diet of fruits and vegetables, and drink a supplemental formula for their entire life to avoid serious neurological and physical side effects. For reference, the average person without PKU consumes about 60-100 grams of protein per day.
