What does a $12 grocery day in Iran actually look like—and what can I make with it? 👀
Hi everyone, I’m Lily!
In today’s vlog, I’m taking you along for another day in my life in Iran. We start at a small local produce market, where prices are much lower and we compare some everyday groceries and fresh produce.
Then we head to a more modern supermarket with higher prices and better-quality options, pick up the rest of what I need, and compare the two very different ways of grocery shopping here. I spent around $12 on today’s shopping, and then we head home to make one of my favorite tuna sandwiches.
It may sound simple, but this filling tastes completely different from a regular tuna sandwich—creamy, fresh, crunchy and so good. This is one of those recipes I make again and again.

Here’s the full recipe below 👇
Creamy Tuna & Herb Sandwich
Ingredients:
1 can tuna in brine, 2 tbsp finely chopped spring onions, 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill, 3 walnuts (chopped), 2 tbsp finely diced bell pepper, ½ pickle (finely diced), 2 heaping tbsp cream cheese, 1 tbsp mild mustard or Dijon mustard, juice of ½ fresh lime, salt & black pepper, baby spinach, cheddar cheese or any cheese you like, and wheat-bran toast.
Heat the unopened tuna can in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then let it cool. Drain the tuna and break it up gently without making it too fine. Add the spring onions, dill, chopped walnuts, bell pepper and pickle. Mix in the cream cheese, mustard, fresh lime juice, salt and black pepper until everything becomes creamy and well combined. Toast the bread until golden and crunchy, then layer on the tuna mixture, baby spinach and cheddar or your favorite cheese. Close the sandwich, slice it and serve it cold.
The combination is so good—the crunchy toast, creamy tuna, fresh herbs, walnuts and mustard make it taste completely different from a basic tuna sandwich. It’s filling, protein-packed, and even if you’re not usually a big tuna fan, you might really love this one.

I hope this vlog feels like spending another little day in Iran together. 🤍
I’d love to know how you usually shop for groceries in your country. Do you prefer cheaper local markets or bigger modern supermarkets?
Thank you so much for watching and being here with me—it truly means a lot.
And by the way, what country are you watching me from?
