Ukraine Runs Out of Patriot Missiles? Kyiv Faces Air Defence Crisis | Russia Ukraine News | N18G

Ukraine has reportedly run out of interceptor missiles for its US-made Patriot air defence systems, raising serious concerns about Kyiv’s ability to defend against Russian ballistic missile attacks. A source familiar with the situation told CNN that Ukraine had exhausted its stock of Patriot interceptors, leaving the country more vulnerable to further strikes. The reported shortage comes as Russia intensifies attacks on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure ahead of winter. During a recent Russian assault, missiles struck three power plants in Kyiv and targeted energy infrastructure in Kharkiv. CNN reported that a lack of interceptors meant almost all ballistic missiles in that attack went un-intercepted, according to its source. Patriot systems are among the few weapons in Ukraine’s arsenal capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. However, the interceptors are expensive, difficult to produce quickly and in high demand globally, with the war involving Iran adding further pressure on supplies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly appealed to Washington and European allies for additional air defence missiles.
