643 kilometres. 43,800 metres of elevation gain. Ten days in the Swiss Alps. This is my journey through the Swiss Peaks Odyssey 2026 – an extraordinary 643 km ultrarunning race through some of the most demanding mountain terrain in Europe. But how do you prepare for something like this when you live in the Netherlands, a country with almost no mountains? For months, I tried to find an answer. Hundreds of kilometres of training, endless hill repetitions, long nights, careful planning and countless hours preparing for something I had never experienced before. On 25 August 2026, I stood at the start line in Le Bouveret, Switzerland, knowing that I had done everything I could to prepare. What I didn't know was whether any of it would be enough. What followed was a ten-day journey through the Swiss Alps, facing unpredictable weather, relentless climbs, technical descents, sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion and the uncertainty of what each new day would bring. And as the kilometres accumulated, I discovered that some of the biggest challenges weren't necessarily the ones I had prepared for. This video is my personal account of the Swiss Peaks Odyssey. Not simply a collection of spectacular mountain views or race highlights, but an attempt to tell the full story: the preparation, the doubts, the difficult moments, the unexpected experiences and the people who helped me along the way. Because ultimately, this adventure was never about winning or setting a particular time. It was about discovering whether all those months of preparation could carry me through something that, until then, had seemed almost impossible. And whether the experience would be worth everything it took to get there. Now I know. --- 🏔️ ABOUT THE RACE The Swiss Peaks Odyssey is an extreme multi-day ultratrail race across the Swiss Alps, combining enormous distances with highly technical mountain terrain.
