#truecrime #coldcase #JanetteWilton In 2003, Janette Wilton opened the front door that only strangers used. It took 21 years to learn who knocked. On a February night in 2003, a man knocked at the front door of Janette Wilton’s home in Saginaw County, Michigan. Anyone who knew the family used the side door. Janette, 57, a mother and grandmother who cared for her bedridden father, let him in and talked with him for about an hour. By morning she was gone, and a man walking the Flint River found her body. Detectives interviewed hundreds of people, collected 79 DNA samples and followed thousands of tips. Not one sample matched. Two decades later, a Western Michigan University cold case team, Michigan State Police and a DNA lab using forensic genetic genealogy traced the profile through several family trees to Jason Cabello, a man who had been listed among roughly 1,000 names in the case file. This documentary follows the Janette Wilton case (also spelled Jeanette Wilton) from the knock at the door to Cabello’s no contest plea, and asks what a sentence can answer when the man never said why.
