Sonatina for Oboe & Piano by Jeff Gao 1st Mvmt - Spring Festival

Sonatina for Oboe and Piano was composed in 2016 and consists of three movements, each serving as a personal homage. The first movement, "Spring Festival," is a tribute to my birthplace, Beijing. It opens with a bold fanfare from the oboe, immediately echoed by the piano, before launching into the first main theme—an up-tempo, rhythmically vibrant melody reminiscent of a Chinese folk dance. A contrasting second theme follows, slower in tempo and somewhat clumsy, yet full of charm and humor. The first theme returns before the movement concludes with an uplifting fanfare, mirroring its opening energy.
