EP. 76 Cruising Las Perlas Islands during humpback whale season

We’re leaving Panama City behind and beginning our next sailing adventure into the Pacific! ⛵🇵🇦 After transiting the Panama Canal, we set sail from Panama City to explore some of the incredible islands just off Panama’s Pacific coast. Our first stop is Taboga Island, the “Island of Flowers,” where we head ashore and hike high above the village for spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Panama City skyline. From Taboga, we sail farther offshore to the beautiful Las Perlas Islands (Pearl Islands)—one of Panama’s best cruising grounds. We explore the islands of Chapera, Casaya, and Contadora, discovering secluded anchorages, beautiful beaches, clear water, and the incredible scenery that makes Las Perlas such a special destination for sailors. On Isla Contadora, we also explore the fascinating ruins of the once-famous Hotel Contadora. During its heyday in the 1970s and ’80s, Contadora was one of Panama’s most glamorous destinations, attracting celebrities, political leaders, and the international jet set. The massive resort eventually closed in 2009, leaving its abandoned ruins overlooking Playa Larga. This is our first real taste of Pacific Ocean cruising aboard our sailboat Endless Summer as we continue exploring Panama by sailboat and begin working our way west along the Pacific coast.
