30 animals, one song. Every heart has its own tempo, every wing has its own buzz, and every animal has its own voice. I turned all three into one Brazilian phonk song.
0:00 All 30 animals together
0:18 1. Hearts
2:16 The whale's heartbeat
2:46 2. Wings
4:44 The mosquito
5:13 3. Voices
7:12 The goat
7:41 All 30 animals together
Hearts. Every heart rate here is a whole multiple of the elephant's 32.5 beats per minute, so they all lock into one groove (bpm = 32.5 × n):
Elephant 32.5 bpm (×1), Horse 32.5 (×1), You 65 (×2), Cow 65 (×2), Dog 97.5 (×3), Cat 130 (×4), Rabbit 260 (×8), Chick 390 (×12), Mouse 520 (×16), Hummingbird 1,040 (×32). The song's tempo is 130 bpm, exactly the cat's heart rate. A blue whale's heart can slow to about 2 to 3 beats per minute on a deep dive, so it beats only a few times in the whole video.
Wings. Every wing moves like a sine wave: y = sin(2π·f·t). Slow wings make the rhythm, fast wings are so fast they become musical notes:
Eagle ~2.2 flaps per second, Pigeon ~4.3, Butterfly ~6.5, Bat ~8.7, Sparrow ~13, Hummingbird ~55 (A1), Bumblebee ~131 (C3), Housefly ~196 (G3), Honeybee ~220 (A3), Mosquito ~440 (A4). Together the five fastest play an A minor 7 chord.
Voices. Cow, frog, cricket, owls, cat, dog, duck, rooster, wolf, lion and goat, tuned to notes with f = 440 · 2^(n/12).
Every sound in this video was synthesized from scratch with math. There are no recordings. Heart rates and wing speeds are real values or within the real range for each animal; they vary between individuals and species, and values marked ~ are approximate.
