“Songwriter” — Original Songwriter Demo Written by Jeffrey Michael Adelung ASCAP Songwriter Thanks for listening. “Songwriter” is a song about looking back at a lifetime of love and wishing you could somehow put those memories into a song. It begins with the memories of young love — swimming in the river, meeting in the meadow where the wildflowers bloom, watching the butterflies dance in the morning sun, and listening to the robins, bluebirds and doves. Then time moves forward. Yesterday she was standing there in her white wedding gown. The years have passed, but those memories haven't. At its heart, it's about our desire for a song to take us back to a moment — even if only for a few minutes — to the people, places and moments that meant everything. The song is the internal, unspoken dialogue of a man asking for a song that can help him remember the beautiful moments of a life he shared with the love of his life. I tried to write it showing the passage of time and the different stations of their lives together — young love, swimming in the river, meeting in the meadow, their wedding day, the years that followed, and the memories that remain after she is gone. But ultimately, he's asking the songwriter for more than a song that will simply take him back. Back home. His love is in Heaven, and he believes someday he will join her there.
