What's going on, my math party people! Welcome back to the channel - today we're working through three linear equation problems straight from the FTCE General Knowledge Math exam. If solving for x is something you want to feel completely confident about on test day, this one is for you.
All three problems focus on the same core skill: isolating a variable and solving a linear equation. We go from a straightforward one-step problem all the way up to one that requires you to distribute and combine like terms before you can isolate x. Watching all three back to back is a great way to see how the difficulty can shift while the underlying process stays the same. This skill shows up on the FTCE GK and Praxis Core Math, so the reps here pull double duty if you're preparing for either exam.

💡 QUICK TIPS FOR SOLVING LINEAR EQUATIONS:
• If there are parentheses, distribute first before doing anything else.
• Combine any like terms on the same side of the equation.
• Use inverse operations to move constants away from the variable term.
• Divide (or multiply) last to get x by itself.
• Always check your answer by plugging it back into the original equation.
