Midnight Sun: The Sound of Kantele (Compilation) 2026

The fourth instalment in the Midnight Sun folk compilation series sets its focus on the Finnish traditional instrument, kantele. Kantele is a zither-like instrument with a long tradition in Finland. The exact history of the instrument is unknown, but it has existed for at least a thousand years. According to Finnish folklore, the first kantele was made from the jawbone of a giant pike by the sage Väinämöinen, who is also depicted in the cover art of this compilation.
