Finished Knits, New Cast Ons & A Special Travel Project 🧶

There’s lots of knitting to catch up on today at Our Island Home! 🧶 Finished knits, works in progress, new cast-ons and some exciting knitting plans — including a special project that will soon be travelling all the way from Phillip Island to Rwanda, Africa with me. First, I’m revisiting my Winter Soul Sweater, which is now finished, blocked and finally has sleeves I’m happy with after a little knitting surgery! I’m also sharing my finished James Sweater, an experiment in substituting a DK-weight yarn for the bulkier yarn called for in the pattern, and my finished Camisole No. 4, ready for the warmer Australian weather. On my needles, there’s plenty happening. My beautiful lilac Poetic Sweater by Sari Nordlund is growing quickly in 100% Bendigo Woollen Mills cotton, and I’m making good progress on the red Mixed Rib Cami by Handmade by Florence. I’ve also cast on the colourful Scrappy Yoke Sweater by Olga Putano, using four shades of fingering-weight wool from my stash. This one will eventually have its own project vlog. I’ve also finally decided what to make with the beautiful cotton-and-alpaca yarn I bought on my recent Melbourne yarn-shopping trip: the Vanillia Light Top by Sari Nordlund. This will be a particularly special project because I’m taking it with me on an upcoming work trip to Rwanda. I’m hoping to capture some of the experience while I’m there and turn it into a little knitting and travel vlog for the channel. There’s another ambitious cast-on coming too — a beautiful all-over colourwork sweater by Zaneti Knits using charcoal and the gorgeous Scarlet Twist red yarn I found while yarn shopping in Melbourne. And there’s one much smaller knitting project on my list… 🐧 Tiny sweaters for the little penguins here on Phillip Island! I’m planning to use some of my leftover yarn to knit colourful little penguin sweaters as an ongoing project. It feels like a lovely way to put those small amounts of yarn to use while giving something back locally. Finally, I’ll show you a few recent purchases, including some beautiful silk-and-cotton yarn, new interchangeable lace needles and a bargain bag that I think will make the perfect stylish knitting project bag.
