What followed became one of the most important and tragic moments in Tibetan history. This event, now known as the Tibetan National Uprising, marked the beginning of a brutal crackdown by China and ultimately forced the Dalai Lama to escape across the Himalayas into exile in India. More than six decades later, Tibetans around the world still commemorate March 10 as a day of remembrance, resistance, and hope.
