The problem is that Smash became so good at translating Captain Falcon that his actual series became harder to understand without it. Once you understand the universe is built on the ego and survival of what is essentially Nintendo’s version of the Tekken roster, the reluctance of playing a racing game disappears; and you realize that “driving a car” is the playable surface of a much weirder mythology you were never properly introduced to.
