Cycling / Bikepacking from London to Bristol (Thames to the Avon) via in part the NCN route 4 - following at times the Thames path - Kennet & Avon Canal path - various tracks - field routes quite lanes and B class roads.
A good winter run out totalling 280km ( 174m) I split the route into two & a half days cycling:
Day 1 - London -Maidenhead
Day 2 - Maidenhead- Devizes
Day 3 - Devizes- Bristol
A quiet route although cycling midweek makes a difference if you plan to use some of the paths along the Thames or the canal, some are of course extremely narrow and if you are riding in a group it could be a little problematic due to many people using the route…
A good winter trying ride, some interesting sights along the way … including Caen Locks .. a succession of some 29 locks just after/before devizes which rise some 237ft .. I believe one of the longest in the country.
Certainly a route to tick off using part of the NCN4 (National Cycle Network) in general it’s well posted however at times the signs vanish or turn back on themselves… experience ensured I continued to roll on in the right direction as I had uploaded and planned a route through my Garmin GPS - remember any of these route maps are only ever a guide.
Enjoy & remember your day lights to be seen as well as your night lights to see 👍😀🚴 safe cycling
