The Kerlingarfjoll volcanic mountain range in Iceland’s central Highlands wild landscapes beyond the beaten path is spectacularly out of this world. We hiked through steaming valleys, past ice-capped rhyolite peaks and long glacier-fed rivers. We head deep and desolate Hveradalir Valley, Iceland’s largest and most geothermal areas. True to its name, “Valley of the Hot Springs “. The area is alive with bubbling mud, pools, hissing and steaming vents, and vividly colored hot springs.
