Marathi Natyasangeet | Omkar Dadarkar | Vocal | Hindustani Classical | The Peninsula Studios Omkar Dadarkar carries the musical inheritance of Maharashtra in his voice — Natyasangeet, the theatre-music tradition born on the Marathi stage, sung here at The Peninsula Studios with the embellished tans that have made him a concert favourite well beyond Mumbai. Natyasangeet emerged in late 19th-century Maharashtra as a form of sung theatre, blending Hindustani classical structure with dramatic storytelling — music written to be performed inside plays, then gradually taken up as concert repertoire in its own right. Omkar Dadarkar was born in Mumbai and trained first under his aunt, the vocalist Manik Verma, before receiving taleem from Pandit Yashwantbua Joshi of the Gwalior gharana and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar — a lineage that grounds his Natyasangeet in classical rigour even though the form itself was built for the stage.
