Hatim al-Tai is remembered in Arab literature and tradition for his extraordinary generosity, courage, poetry and hospitality. His name became so closely associated with generosity that the expression “more generous than Hatim” became proverbial. During my visit, I explored the historic remains in Tuwarin, including the site associated with Hatim al-Tai's home and tomb, and tried to understand the history behind one of the most famous names in Arab heritage.
