M8.3 - 2015 Illapel, Chile Earthquake | Earthquake Shakemap Animation

On September 16, 2015, a powerful Mw 8.3 megathrust earthquake struck offshore of Illapel, Chile, along the South American Subduction Zone. The earthquake produced severe shaking, reaching a maximum reported intensity of VIII, and generated a destructive tsunami along the central Chilean coast.
