સૌરાષ્ટ્રના અડધા ભાગમાં વરસાદની અછત અથવા અપૂરતા વરસાદને કારણે નાના અને શ્રીમાંત ખેડૂતોની આર્થિક સ્થિતિ કફોડી બની છે. ૫ થી ૧૦ વીઘા જમીન ધરાવતા અને આર્થિક ભીંસનો સામનો કરી રહેલા આવા ખેડૂતો હાલમાં પોતાના બળદોને સાચવવા અસમર્થ છે. આ વિકટ પરિસ્થિતિમાં રાજકોટ ખાતે આવેલ 'સદભાવના બળદ આશ્રમ' અશક્ત અને નિરાધાર બળદો માટે મોટો સહારો બન્યો છે.સદભાવના બળદ આશ્રમ ટ્રસ્ટી શ્રી ધીરેન્દ્ર કાનાબારના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર, આ સંસ્થા છેલ્લા ૧૨ વર્ષથી ૨૦૦ થી ૨૫૦ કિલોમીટર દૂરથી આવતા અને કાળઝાળ મુશ્કેલીમાં મૂકાયેલા બળદોને રડતા હૃદયે અને આંખમાં આંસુ સાથે સ્વીકારે છે. આશ્રમ દ્વારા ખેડૂતો પાસેથી બળદ સ્વીકારતી વખતે કોઈ જ પ્રકારનો ચાર્જ લેવામાં આવતો નથી, એટલું જ નહીં પરંતુ દૂરથી આવતા ખેડૂતો અને પશુપાલકો માટે ચા-પાણી અને નાસ્તાની પણ પૂરતી વ્યવસ્થા કરવામાં આવે છે. રોજિંદી ૩,૦૦૦ મણ ઘાસચારાની જરૂરિયાત:હાલ આશ્રમમાં અશક્ત બળદોની સંખ્યા ઉત્તરોત્તર વધતી જાય છે. સંસ્થાને દરરોજ ૩,૦૦0 મણથી વધુ ઘાસચારાની જરૂરિયાત રહે છે. આ સમગ્ર સેવા યજ્ઞ માત્ર અને માત્ર ઉદારદિલ દાતાઓના સહકાર અને ઈશ્વરના આશીર્વાદથી જ ચાલી રહ્યો છે. આશ્રમમાં હાલ ૫૦ જેટલા કર્મચારીઓનો સ્ટાફ ગૌસેવા માટે કાર્યરત છે.
