"යේ කේචි බුද්ධං සරණං ගතාසේ” යන පාලි ගාථාව අපට සිහිපත් කරන්නේ බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ සරණ යාමේ අති උතුම් වටිනාකමයි. බුදු සරණ යාම යනු වචනයෙන් පමණක් ප්‍රකාශ කිරීමක් නොව, බුදුන් වහන්සේ පෙන්වා දුන් ධර්ම මාර්ගය අනුව තම ජීවිතය හැඩගස්වා ගැනීමකි. බුදුරදුන් සරණ ගිය පුද්ගලයාගේ ජීවිතයේ සිදුවන වෙනස්කම්, අනන්ත වූ බුදු ගුණ සිහි කිරීමේ ආනිසංස, භය, සැක සහ සිතේ අඳුරු බව දුරු කරගැනීමේ මාර්ගය සහ ශ්‍රද්ධාවෙන්, ශීලයෙන් සහ ප්‍රඥාවෙන් ජීවිතය දියුණු කරගැනීම මෙම දේශනාවෙන් පැහැදිලි කෙරේ. සැබෑ බුදු සරණ යාම යනු බාහිර ආරක්ෂාවක් පමණක් අපේක්ෂා කිරීම නොව, තම සිත පිරිසිදු කරමින් ලෝභ, ද්වේෂ, මෝහ අඩු කරගෙන ධර්මයේ මාර්ගයේ ගමන් කිරීම බව අපි සියළුදෙනා අවබෝධකරගනිමු.
