MAD MAX CAME BACK TO CLUNES!
The Johnny the Boy: Doomsday Weekend 2026 brought an incredible convoy of Mad Max replica cars, bikes and fans into the historic Victorian town of Clunes, one of the iconic filming locations from the original 1979 Mad Max movie.
I was there to capture the convoy arriving in Clunes, the Mad Max vehicles and bikes, the atmosphere around the event and some very special moments connected to the history of the movie.
One of the biggest highlights was meeting Tim Burns, who played Johnny the Boy in Mad Max (1979). Tim returned to Clunes as part of this special Mad Max weekend, bringing one of the original film's most recognisable characters back to a location connected to the movie.
Also appearing was Murray Smith, a mechanic and stuntman associated with the Mad Max production, giving fans another chance to hear from someone who was involved behind the scenes of the legendary Australian film.
The day also included a particularly emotional tribute to Timmy Gibson, who worked on Mad Max, with the spreading of his ashes taking place as part of the weekend's remembrance.
From the Mad Max convoy travelling from Maryborough to Clunes, to the replica Pursuit Specials, MFP vehicles, motorcycles and other Wasteland machines, this was much more than an ordinary car show.
Clunes has a special place in Australian film history. Its historic streets were used during the filming of Mad Max in 1979, and the town still looks remarkably familiar to fans of the movie more than 45 years later.
This video captures the Mad Max Johnny the Boy Doomsday 2026 event in Clunes, Victoria, including the convoy, Mad Max cars, motorcycles, movie connections, special guests and the people keeping the legacy of the original Australian classic alive.
If you're a fan of Mad Max, Johnny the Boy, Tim Burns, Mel Gibson, Australian movie history, Mad Max cars, replica movie cars, classic cars, motorcycles or unique Victorian events, this is one you won't want to miss.
