Jorge Bolet Plays - Live - Chopin-Godowsky (Study No.1) and Strauss-Godowsky Symphonic Metamorphoses

I was not able to make an LP transfer this week, so I am sharing 2 tracks from the fantastic 6 volume set produced by Ward Marston a decade ago. The set is entitled: Jorge Bolet, Ambassador from the Golden Age. It contains a fantastic assortment of live performances and privately recorded performances of Jorge Bolet. Here, Bolet tackles two arrangements by Leopold Godowsky. Godowsky created some extremely difficult compositions based on works by other composers. Bolet did issue one LP that was limited to Godowsky works - but the performance here are live. They were recorded in Philadelphia in 1979, and Cologne in 1973 respectively. Godowsky is not to everyone's taste with his flourishes and complications (not unlike Art Tatum in jazz.) However, Bolet seemed to enjoy them despite the finger-twisting difficulty. Godowsky was also the father-in-law of David Saperton. Saperton was Bolet's principal teacher at the Curtis Institute. The producer of this set is Ward Marston. Mr. Marston is well know for collecting, re-engineering, and putting out CDs of thousands of important and rare recordings spanning the 20th century - from Edison cylinders to LPs. Many of these would have been lost to history without his efforts. And the quality of his work in transfers, in my opinion, is unmatched.
