You Look Holy—But God Sees What You’re Hiding | Bishop T.D. Jakes
*You look holy—but God sees what you’re hiding.*
In this powerful message, Bishop T.D. Jakes teaches from Luke 18:9–14 and the parable of the Pharisee and the publican, exposing the danger of looking righteous on the outside while hiding pride, pain, fear, insecurity, and brokenness underneath.
The Pharisee looked religious.
He fasted.
He gave.
He prayed.
He knew how to present himself.
But instead of coming before God with humility, he compared himself to other people and used his religious behavior as proof that he was better than them.
The publican did something completely different.
He did not hide.
He did not pretend.
He did not offer God a résumé.
He simply admitted the truth about himself and asked for mercy.
And Jesus said that this man went home justified.
This sermon challenges an uncomfortable question:
*Are you giving God the real you—or only the version of you that looks good in front of people?*
You can know Scripture and still hide behind an image.
You can serve in church and still carry pride.
You can praise loudly and still avoid the truth about what is happening inside you.
You can smile while you are hurting.
You can appear strong while feeling empty.
You can look holy while hiding pain that nobody else can see.
But God sees beyond the mask.
Bishop Jakes reminds us that real worship requires truth. God is not asking for your title, your accomplishments, your talent, your reputation, or your religious résumé.
He wants you.
The tired you.
The scared you.
The lonely you.
The frustrated you.
The broken you.
The person underneath the camouflage.
This message is also a warning against judging other people while ignoring what still needs healing inside ourselves. The Pharisee focused on what was wrong with everyone else. The publican focused on his own need for grace.
Pride separates.
Humility opens the door to mercy.
And sometimes your breakthrough begins the moment you stop pretending.
*LOOK HOLY—GOD SEES YOUR SECRET.*
Come before God honestly.
Drop the mask.
Stop comparing yourself to everyone else.
Stop hiding behind what you do.
Let God deal with who you really are.
Watch until the end and share this message with someone who needs freedom from pride, rejection, hidden pain, religious performance, or the pressure to appear perfect.
