Planned during DP1 and recorded during DP2, your IO is one of the most rewarding components of your DP journey. Following your selection of a literary work (40-line extract or collection of poems (2-3)) and a non-literary body of work, you will examine the extent to which a global issue worthy of our concern and immediate attention is presented. The traditional/popular approach is to choose 2/3 poems from one collection and compare these to 2/3 images/paintings from another (single) collection. Generally, I recommend our works from the classroom: poetry by Carol Ann Duffy and photography by Laura Boushnak. Popular selections include: Literary works: poets Maya Angelou, Philip K. Dick, Langston Hughes, Wisława Szymborska. Non-literary works: Paintings, Awareness campaigns, Photography, Graffiti (Banksy). IO option 1: selection of a 40-line extract from within a work you have studied. In this instance, your 4 minutes are split between references to the passage/extract and then the rest of the text. IO option 2: the most popular approach: source 2/3 works fewer than 40 lines each in length. 2 minutes dedicated to your primary literary work and 2 minutes referencing the body of work - supporting the notions uncovered in your primary work.
