Journey into Svara, Raga & Laya - Part 2 : M Balamuralikrishna & Kishori Amonkar (Yaman / Kalyani)

Gangā – Kāvéri – The spirit of freedom concerts of Doordarshan of yore are a journey into svara, rāga and rhythm of both north and south Indian music. It is believed that this was conceptualised by Sri. T V K Shastry of Bharat Cultural Integration Committee. In our pursuit for the search for music recordings for posterity, we chanced upon two such episodes recorded from the television on to a VHS tape. Although the quality of both audio and video is wanting, we thought it still would be better to share these for the value of the message of national integration that they offer. Part 2 : This 20 minutes programme features Sri. M Balamuralikrishna and Smt. Kishori Amonkar in a vocal duet. An excerpt from a live concert, in which unfortunately we do not have the beginning of this beautiful duet, features rāga Yaman / Kalyāni. Here, the two rivers have already met in a confluence. Together, they offer the grandeur of the rāga, spontaneity and creativity in svara, showing us a rainbow emerging from their oneness.
