SABC News - March Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in Soweto

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi joined Soweto community members in the Freedom March Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide on Saturday 18 October 2026. The march called for an end to violence and promoted safer communities for all. The Imbizo forms part of Minister Kubayi’s integrated campaign to strengthen prevention and response efforts. It follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for a coordinated government and society response to gender-based violence and femicide. Stakeholders including the Teddy Bear Foundation took part, with Dr Shaheda Omar providing a message of support to the audience. As the conversation continues, the focus remains on prevention, support for those affected and stronger systems that protect women, children and vulnerable people.
