LANZONES FESTIVAL, CAMIGUIN ISLAND, MINDANAO, PHILIPPINES

Dancers perform in a spectacular street dancing parade as part of the 40th Lanzones festival. The event,held annually, is a harvest celebration honouring the small Lanzones fruit which grows abundantly on the Island. Although grown elsewhere in the Philippines the small pebble sized fruit grown in Camiguin is much sought after due to the sweetness and overall better taste. What began as a local harvest tradition in the 1980s has grown into one of the most vibrant festivals in the Philippines — blending agriculture, culture, and tourism against the backdrop of Camiguin's volcanic landscapes, white sand beaches, and hot springs.
