Title: Immersive Learning in Metaverse Platform: Pedagogical Design and Practices in School and Higher Education Date: 2023-07-14 Speaker: Prof Yanjie SONG, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, The Education University of Hong Kong Venue: Zoom @ CUHK In this sharing, the speaker will introduce the 3D metaverse platform – "Learningverse" developed by her research team at The Education University of Hong Kong. "Learningverse" includes the key features of an immersive learning environment with avatars that mirror the real users, rich social interactions, and a low threshold for users to join the metaverse on an ordinary computer with a webcam. Then, pedagogical design and practices in using the platform for immersive learning in both schools and higher education will be shared. Advantages and limitations of applying the platform for innovative pedagogical practices are discussed. Finally, future work is explored. About the Speaker Prof. Yanjie Song is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology at The Education University of Hong Kong, recognized globally among Stanford University’s top 2% of the most-cited scientists in education. In 2023, her research actively investigates innovative pedagogical designs leveraged by emerging technologies, including generative AI, mobile seamless learning, and immersive digital environments. Her ongoing initiatives focus on translating educational technology and multimodal learning analytics into dynamic, student-centered classroom practices across tertiary and school education.
